You’ve had the pain for months. Maybe years. You’ve tried rest. You’ve tried pushing through. You’ve maybe even tried treatment before and felt better for a while, before it came back.
What nobody has told you yet is why it keeps coming back.
That’s the question a good physiotherapist is trained to answer. Not just “where does it hurt?”, but what’s actually causing it, and what needs to change so it stops.
Symptoms Are the Alarm. We Find the Fire.
Pain is information. A sore knee might be a knee problem, but it might also be a hip mobility issue, a weakness in your glutes, a movement pattern you’ve been repeating for ten years, or a combination of all three. Treat the knee in isolation and you’ll get short-term relief. Identify and address the underlying driver and you get a real solution.
At Proactive Health, our physiotherapists are trained to assess your whole body, not just the site of pain. That means a thorough examination of how you move, where your strength is lacking, what your joints are and aren’t doing, and what’s contributing to the problem you’ve been carrying.
This is what makes physiotherapy different to just treating symptoms. It’s a diagnostic process, and the diagnosis shapes everything that follows.
What to Expect at Your First Appointment
Your first session is about understanding you, your history, your movement, and your life. We’ll ask about:
- When the pain started and what makes it better or worse
- Your work, activity levels, and daily habits
- Any previous injuries, surgeries, or treatment
- What you want to get back to
Then we’ll put you through a physical assessment. We watch how you move, test your strength and range of motion, and identify any asymmetries or compensations your body has developed over time.
By the end of your first appointment, you’ll have a clear picture of what’s going on and a treatment plan built around fixing the root cause, not just managing the pain.

Physio Plus Exercise Physiology: The Combination That Gets Results
For many conditions, physiotherapy works best alongside exercise physiology. Your physio diagnoses and treats the problem. Your exercise physiologist builds the long-term strength and movement program that makes sure it doesn’t come back.
At Proactive Health, our physios and AEPs work as a team. They share notes, coordinate your care, and make sure your treatment plan is pulling in one direction. For specific conditions, we also run dedicated multidisciplinary programs including Got Your Back for lumbar spine pain and Stand Strong for knee and hip osteoarthritis.
